"We also encourage educators to use this moment to help students get focused and inspired to begin the new academic year. The Department of Education offers educators a menu of classroom activities—created by its teachers-in-residence, the Teaching Ambassador Fellows—to help engage students in the address and stimulate classroom discussions about the importance of education."
Here are the "Classroom Activities" that are being suggested for teachers of children in grades Kindergarten to 6th Grade.

Now personally I think it's great that the President wants to encourage school children to do well in school but I don't agree with the policies that are being passed in our country right now, so how do I know that some of these things or issues are not going to make their way in to this speech. I am just leery of this. Anyway, thanks for listening to my rant.
Richelle - I really miss you, and I absolutely love this new blog that you are doing. I read it every time you post. Keep it up! Hope things are going well for you back in Idaho.
ReplyDeleteEducating children is a power that cannot be underestimated. I read about a "propagandist" whose philosophy was to target mothers with his ideas because only then could the world be changed...because mothers teach children. Teaching morals and habits and ideals to children can truly integrate those principals for the rest of their lives. It is a powerful too. And like anything that powerful, it can be misused. I, too, am very leery about what political agendas could make their way into school curriculums. Especially after watching Obama's video, which left me with the heebie jeebies. If I had a school-aged child right now, I would pull them out and home school them, teaching them how to be an upright, hardworking, land-loving citizen my own way.
